Le Petit Prince

"It is only with the heart that one can see rightly, what is essential is invisible to the eye"
...Le Petit Prince

The Litte Prince is the best-known work of writer Antoine de Saint-Exupery(1900-1944). His writing is based on his experiences as a professional aviator and journalist, and his lifelong-held humanist convictions. At the outset of WWII, he served as a reconnaissance pilot in the French Airforce, escaping from the German occupation forces to New York along with other French Intellectuals. Thereafter, he re-joined the Free France Airforce, serving once again as a reconnaissance pilot. At age 44 in July, 1944 during one of his missions over the Mediterranean Sea his plane was shot down. In October, 1998 a fisherman Jean Claude Bianco caught a bracelet in his nets 115 miles due west of Marseilles. Attached to the bracelet was a strip of fabric from Saint-Exupery’s flight suit. The inscription on the sea-rusted bracelet bears the name of the author’s wife and his publishers.
